Christopher Gross Rosanna Bulian, Art Director at Restaurant Business Magazine wanted an interesting environmental portrait of Christopher Gross of Christopher's Fermier. For Nov. 2nd it was pretty hot, I remember it was about 92 degrees in Phoenix the day of the shoot. We decided to shoot in front of the main door... I liked the spoon on the door, and could add some light on the yellow wall inside the restaurant to make it just a little more inviting... it's subtle, but I like it. Chefs can be tough to shoot... they usually wear white, and it's our job to hold the detail in the clothing, but I love working for the restaurant publications, cause you always get a nice meal at the shoot and have some fun :-) Strobist / Lighting info: (3) DynalitesMain light: medium Chimera, camera / subject left. ...feathered from the wall and silk off the bottom 2/3 of the soft box. Large flag to keep the sun off of the subject. (1) 10" reflector on wall to the right of the door, ...black wraped to keep light from subject. (1) 10" reflector inside, lighting the yellow wall. Hasselblad 50mm lens with an 81B filter. |
